The "1st EECA Cluster networking event - ICT Communities building" was organised on 12 November 2014 in Baku, Azerbaijan by the EECA Cluster in collaboration with the International Relations Office of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and the Regional Innovative Technologies Academy (R.I.T.A.).
The event focused on specific ICT sub-areas of mutual interest for in R&I collaboration among research and industrial teams from the EU and the EECA countries, namely:
- Big Data, Software and Services
- Interactive Content, Media and Creative industries
- High Performance Systems
Therefore, three (3) parallel sessions were organised, targeting to:
- Present the activities of the respective ETPs to support the scientific and technological development of the ICT field of focus (e.g. through the elaboration of position papers in several sub-fields as well as the development of a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda, which contribute in shaping R&I priorities at EU level, etc).
- Inform EECA experts on ways to be involved in the respective ETP activities as well as the potential benefits (e.g. opportunity to network with leading research and industrial EU actors, promote the R&I priorities in their countries and contribute in highlighting/revealing the common areas for collaboration among R&I actors from both regions, etc).
- Agree on a set of actions to further enhance interaction and collaboration among EU and EECA experts under the ETPs context.
Overall, more than 70 experts from academia/research organisations, the private sector (Industry and SMEs) and associations/clusters from both regions participated to the event:
- 20 experts from EU (France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Spain and UK), including Members of the Steering Board of the European Technology Platforms NESSI and NEM;
- 50 Experts from Russia, the Eastern Partnership countries (i.e. Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) and the Central Asia countries involved in the Cluster (i.e. Kazakhstan Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan).
